Stress is Out, Unwinding is In

Stress is Out, Unwinding is In

With a new season upon us, spring brings not only blooming flowers and longer days—but let’s be real—it can also bring a bit of stress. Whether it’s the pressure to declutter everything, busy schedules, or just the mental load of transitioning seasons, it's easy to feel a little overwhelmed. That’s why I’ve put together some of my favourite ways to unwind after a long day, a hectic week, or really whenever the need strikes.

These ideas are a mix of budget-friendly and low-cost activities, because let’s face it, self-care shouldn't break the bank. Everyone is different, so not every idea may click—but these have been essential go-tos in my life when I need to hit the reset button.

Find a New Show

I know, I know—this one sounds obvious with approximately a billion shows on 500 streaming platforms. But the key is finding something that really fits your mood. For me, that might mean a musical, a sweet Hallmark romance, a twisty murder mystery, a high-stakes medical drama, or a thought-provoking documentary. It really depends on what my brain can handle that day (and trust me, some days it’s nothing more than a feel-good baking show, and that’s okay!).

A few personal faves: The Rookie, High Potential, You, Nobody Wants This, and honestly, many more—I’m a bit of a genre hopper.

Crafting Queen

Are we even a little surprised that I love crafting? Probably not. I grew up with a mom who always had some sort of project going—whether it was sewing, crocheting, or yarn crafts. That creative spark definitely rubbed off on me.

Lately, I’ve been loving cross-stitch and felt crafts. Pinterest and social media are my go-to places for inspiration. If you’re new to crafting, start small! A beginner’s kit is a great way to dip your toes in. Trust me, no one is making a full wall tapestry on day one (spoken from experience—I once tried to learn crochet and immediately started a flower blanket. Ambitious?).

Have a Sweet Treat

This doesn’t have to be a complicated bake-off situation. I have a giant box of frozen cookie dough from Costco, and popping a couple in the oven can instantly turn a blah day around. There’s just something magical about a warm, gooey chocolate chip cookie. If you’re in the mood to get a little adventurous, try making a loaf of bread or a simple cake. Whatever brings you joy!

Go to the Theatre

Okay yes, this one does cost money, but sometimes a movie night out is worth every penny. There’s just something special about sitting in a dark theater, snacks in hand, being completely immersed in a story. No notifications, no multitasking, no distractions—just you and the big screen. It’s pure magic.

Read a Book

Books are my happy place. My reading preferences totally mirror my TV tastes—give me romance, mystery, drama, or a good true story and I’m in. There’s something so relaxing about getting lost in another world. Head to your local library, cozy up with a warm drink, and let yourself get carried away by someone else’s imagination. It’s honestly one of the best (and cheapest!) ways to unwind.

At the end of the day, unwinding doesn’t have to be elaborate or expensive. It’s about finding small things that help you feel more like yourself again. So here’s your gentle reminder to take that break, binge that show, eat the cookie, and give yourself a moment to just be.

You deserve it.

Always Stay Warped and Twisted as Ever,

Eve
