Things We Thought Were Normal Growing Up… Apparently Not 😅
Share
We all have those moments where you casually mention something from your childhood… and the room goes quiet.
And suddenly you’re like…
“Wait. You guys didn’t do that??”
Yeah. That’s this entire episode.
This week on Burnt Out Perfectionist, we’re talking about the things we did growing up that made perfect sense in our house — but apparently were not universal experiences.
The Moment You Realize…
It always starts the same way.
You’re just living your life, doing something you’ve always done… and then someone points it out.
For us, it was things like:
- needing a pillow on your lap just to sit on the couch
- having a very specific favorite fork or spoon (and yes, it mattered)
- thinking certain meals were completely normal… when they absolutely were not
And once you notice it, you can’t unsee it.
The Food That Made Sense (At The Time)
We also had a few… questionable food habits.
Things like:
- buttered noodles with seasoning salt
- spaghetti sandwiches (yes, really)
- very specific “comfort meals” that we thought everyone grew up eating
Looking back now, it’s one of those things where you realize how much of your “normal” is just… what your family did.
🍴 Emotional Support… Cutlery?
One of the biggest realizations?
Not everyone has a favorite fork.
We’re talking full preference. Weight. Shape. Depth of spoon.
The right utensil mattered.
Apparently… that’s not standard behaviour 😅
So… Was It Just Us?
That’s kind of the whole point of this episode.
Some of these things might be super relatable.
Some might make you question us entirely.
But either way — it opens up that conversation we all end up having at some point:
👉 what did you grow up thinking was normal… that definitely wasn’t?
