Understanding Productivity, Procrastination & ADHD Brain Logic

If you’ve ever found yourself cleaning the fridge at midnight to avoid replying to one email… welcome. You’re in good company.

In the latest episode of Burnt Out Perfectionist, we dive into the chaos of productivity—why our brains prioritize the weirdest tasks, how we justify procrastination, and what actually helps us execute the stuff we really need to do.

Whether you have ADHD or just feel overwhelmed by modern life, this episode is packed with relatable stories, useful insights, and a few hacks that have actually worked for us.

What Is the “Productivity Scale”?

The idea is simple: everyone has their own scale of what gets done and when. Some of us thrive with structure and deadlines. Others? We wait until panic mode kicks in… and then power through in one chaotic burst.

We talk about:

  • Why some tasks feel effortless and others feel impossible

  • How ADHD changes the way we perceive urgency and reward

  • What “productive procrastination” looks like (spoiler: you’re doing it)

  • The emotional toll of productivity guilt

Our Favorite Productivity Hacks (ADHD-Approved):

These aren’t perfect—but they’ve helped us start (and finish) more than we used to:

1. Body Doubling:
Put on a YouTube “study with me” video or call a friend while you clean. It’s weirdly effective.

2. Dopamine Boosters:
Timers, fun music, even silly rewards. Trick your brain into caring.

3. The “Easy Win” Strategy:
Start with the smallest, easiest task. One win can unlock momentum.

4. Accountability Voice Memos:
Send a quick update to a friend. Not a full convo—just enough to feel seen.

5. Just Do It Wrong:
If perfection is keeping you stuck, lower the bar. Do the task “badly” just to break the freeze.
