When Your House Breaks, Your Makeup Doesn't Work & ChatGPT Tells You to Go Purple
Share
Ever have one of those weeks where nothing is technically a disaster but also nothing is quite working either? Yeah. Same. Welcome to this week's episode of Burnt Out Perfectionist.
We sat down this Monday the way we always do — no script, no plan, just two sisters with a lot of thoughts and a podcast — and somehow ended up covering everything from a mysterious power outage to a ChatGPT makeup consultation that ended with a suggestion to bleach the bottom of our hair purple.
No notes. We love it.
🔌 When the Appliances Work But Also Don't
Eve's house had a fun little moment this week. A quick power blip — barely two seconds — somehow managed to knock out the heat in every single appliance in the house. The oven lit up. The dryer ran for hours. Nothing actually produced heat.
No one teaches you this stuff. There is no class called "What To Do When Your House Just Decides Not To." So naturally we did what any overwhelmed millennial does — Googled it, got nowhere, then asked ChatGPT, which walked through the whole thing step by step and actually solved it.
Adulting is chaos but at least the robots are helpful now.
💇 Highlight Anxiety is Real
Eve did her neighbour's hair this week — highlights, toning, the whole thing. And if you've ever done anyone's hair, you know that moment when you rinse out the bleach before toning and your soul briefly leaves your body.
It looked incredible in the end. Obviously. But the journey? Stressful. Eve talks about why doing someone else's hair hits different than doing your own and why that moment before the toner goes on should come with a warning label.
🎨 Craft Hauls, Budget Hobbies & Why Scrapbooking Used to Cost a Fortune
Did you know that in the 90s, three low acid scrapbooking pens cost $15? Three pens. We did the math and it was genuinely unhinged how expensive crafting used to be before Dollar Tree and Book Outlet existed.
This week we get into:
- Diamond painting and why the circular ones are genuinely evil
- Paint by number markers at Michaels that will change your life
- Why needlepoint stores want your entire paycheque when the Dollar Tree has 25 options for a dollar
- Book Outlet and how Sara saved almost $400 on kids books in one order
- Why Michaels has slowly become a home decor store with some craft supplies in the corner
If you've been wanting to pick up a new hobby without spending a fortune, this part of the episode is basically a full guide.
💄 Pale Girl Makeup Problems (A Saga)
Okay. This is the one. If you are pale, freckled, sensitive-skinned, or have ever watched a bronzer tutorial and thought "that would make me look like an Oompa Loompa" — this conversation is for you.
We talk about:
- Tinted sunscreens that look perfect in the tube and turn orange on your face
- The Australian Gold tinted sunscreen reformulation that broke our hearts
- Why every bronzer shade is either "too dark" or "three shades too dark"
- Mascara that somehow has a completely different consistency on each eye
- The ELF under eye corrector that was supposed to help and did not
And then Sara did something that honestly changed the game — she took photos of herself in multiple different lighting situations and uploaded them all to ChatGPT for a full skin tone and makeup analysis. It told her what to keep, what to ditch, and what shade direction to go in.
It also told her to go back to her natural hair colour and bleach the bottom section purple.
She's considering it. We support her.
